As many of you know I handled social media for Miami Cigar & Company. In May, the company and I parted ways and I returned to the northeast, Connecticut to be specific. In my time back home I’ve had to dispel some rumors that have put my close relationship with Miami Cigar & Company in jeopardy. Thankfully, Jason Wood has continued to give me the benefit of the doubt as he knows me, and that I am not a malicious person. I have ZERO ill will toward Miami Cigar & Company, and I wish therm success in 2014 and beyond. Our work relationship ended amlicably and our friendship remains stronger then ever. Nestor Miranda is one of the nicest guys in the business and funniest.
The latest rumor is that I no longer smoke their product. This could not be further from the truth. When I moved back, for about 2 weeks I stayed away from it, and La Aurora as I smoked a lot of cigars to write reviews for the site. After 2.5 years of smoking their catalog 90% of the time I needed sample what was out there. In Miami, a lot of the smaller brands get no play and I had a lot of catching up to do. The fact is Miami Cigar & Company continues to produce and distribute some of my favorite cigars on the market, and today’s smoke is a regular in my repertoire.
But such is the nature of the beast, people can’t understand and grasp people parting ways and remaining friends, they can’t accept happiness and inner peace.

Appearance & Construction: The Anoranzas from Miami Cigar & Company features a Habano Oscuro wrapper that has a brindle like effect to it. The cigar is box pressed and is done to perfection. The cigar is firm to the touch, and features a white, gold and green band with the Miami Cigar logo on then back. Looking at the foot there is a nice swirl of ligero tobacco which is the sign of a cigar that should bring some strength.
Flavor & Notes: The cold draw of the Anoranzas features some earthy notes with the slightest touch of cedar while the foot of the cigar reveals some pepper like notes and wood that is more dominant than the cold draw. Once the cigar is lit some of that classic spice is present that is synonymous with the My Father cigar factory where these are made.
As we smoke the first third of the cigar some notes of coffee begin to develop with underlying notes of wood and pepper through the nose. As the first third begins to close out there is a citrus like note that slowly develops, and the spice kicks up not only through the nose but on the flavor as well.
The second third sees a delicious coffee note take a dominant control of the cigar with some underlying nuttiness and continued pepper notes through the nose. The citrus note that began to develop in the first third has disappeared.
The last third of the cigar the aroma becomes noticeable and it is an enjoyable one that adds to the cigar. The nutty notes become the focal point with some charred wood and coffee on the finish.
Smoking Characteristics: The burn of the Anoranzs features a thin carbon line and although it is a little bit wavy at times the cigar never needed to be touched up. The ash held for close to half the cigar although it did become flaky as the older ash was exposed to the air. The draw of the cigar featured a slight resistance which is perfect and it remained cool until the cigar was put down.
Conclusion: For whatever reason these cigars continue to fly under the radar of many smokers, perhaps the name has something to do with, which means a yearning or longing for, memories of the past. The Anoranzas is a great smoke to sit back and relax with while reflecting on times gone by like the name suggests. The price is right too, and while they mellow a bit with age the flavor profile remains the same.
